Beauty is far more than skin deep for this exotic Ethiopian/Trinidadian import. Lola Has been blessed with an independent nature, humility, intelligence, a keen business sense and street smarts. Constantly evolving is the best way to describe Ms. Monroe’s career and life aspirations, but one thing remains constant LoLa is a go getter that won't stop for anything.
Born in Ethiopia, brought up in Washington DC, Garfield Terrace Projects, LoLa came from humble beginnings. No stranger to struggle, after leaving her family at the age of 15 LoLa began using her wit and street sense to navigate through life and get past her many obstacle. The struggles endured created the strive, determination and “go getter” attitude that pours out of her today.
In 2006 Ms. Monroe's business savvy and unique beauty landed her big break in a national publication as her first introduction. LoLa then quickly took the modeling industry by storm becoming the most sought after hip hop model. Visually stimulating to the public eye she appeared in high profile videos for hip hop heavy weights including 50 Cent, Kanye West, Buster Rhymes, Trey Songz and the list goes on. In that 1 to 2 year span LoLa also landed numerous covers and features back to back for many of the major publications. She then made urban model and XXL magazine history by taking “XXL Eye Candy” of the year title consecutively. Going by Angel LoLa Luv at the time Ms. Monroe achieved the type of success models only dream of. In 2007 during the focal point of her modeling height Ms Monroe decided to start turning down the requests and high pay that was being offered to her. All so she can transition into the career she always wanted to pursue “Music”. “You have to look at the bigger picture and make certain sacrifices in order to reach the right goals, never chase money before success..your judgments wont ever be in order” she says.
After these vast achievements LoLa continued to push for further success, while expanding her résumé. Venturing into acting she appeared in the Wendy Williams’ biopic “Queen of Media”, 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct”, “Crazy Like A Fox”, and “Video Girl” a long side Megan Good. Although the acting was successful, while pursuing that aspect of her career LoLa wanted to focus on showcasing her true love and talent – music. Even though it was a surprise to those who only knew her as a model, it was a goal she set out before her modeling career took off. LoLa began writing poems at the young age of 12, at the age of 14 she was penning r&b songs. Using writing as her outlet for her emotions and the different things she was going through it became her escape.
As the first official female rapper and model to go national/international from the DC area, Ms. Monroe became the founder and CEO of her own label and entertainment company Blue Rose Ent and signed her self.
She then went on to release four mixtapes: Boss B*tch’s World, Art of Motivation, Untouchables (with Boosie), and her most current one Boss B*tch’s World II: Batteries Not Included. Batteries Not Included was acclaimed by even Monroe’s antagonists. Her consistent and rapid growth opened doors to new fans turning critics to believers. BNI garnished the single “Overtime” featuring Trina, which premiered on MTV Jams and became the first video released on BET 106&Park from an independent Female Hip Hop Artist. Ms Monroe was then nominated for a 2011 BET Best Female Hip Hop award. In 2011 she was recruited by Wiz kalifa to join one of the biggest movements in Hip Hop, becoming the female rapper of Taylor Gang.
In addition to being an Artist LoLa Monroe is also an active philanthropist, humanitarian, entrepreneur, and advocate for LGBT Rights, and women empowerment. In 2011 LoLa participated in Adam Bouska’s well renown NoH8 campaign. Ms. Monroe is also the founder and head of “Triumphant Angel non-profit Foundation”. Focusing on all aspects of abuse, Triumphant Angel also has an HIV/Aids awareness division and community out reach programs. The obstacles she has over come and the inspiration from her mother's love ingrained a passion in her to reach out and help others get through their own battles. "I don't think there is anyone in the world that has a heart like my mother, God took extra time when creating her, she's special and her love inspires me" says LoLa. Creator of the momentous Bosset movement LoLa instills empowerment and inspiration into her rapidly growing fan base through her movement. 'To be a Bosset is beyond the material facades. Its about standing for something as a women, being in control of you and everything you allow to come into your life. Its about being a strong, independent leader who goes after what ever she want” states Ms. Monroe.
